WHY CHOOSE TARMAC?
Benefits of a Resin Bound Driveway
Resin bound is natural aggregate mixed with clear resin and trowelled out into a smooth, seamless surface. It's the option most homeowners pick when they want the drive to look sharp and handle water without extra drainage work.
Permeable
Water drains straight through, so no pooling and no runoff onto the road.
SuDS Compliant
Meets front garden drainage rules without a separate soakaway.
Seamless Finish
No joints, no blocks, nothing to lift, shift or let weeds through.
UV Stable
The resin we use holds its colour rather than yellowing off over time.
Low Maintenance
An occasional wash down and it keeps looking like it did on day one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does resin bound really drain on its own?
Yes. The stone is coated in resin and laid so the gaps between the aggregate stay open, which lets water pass straight through into the base and away. That's what makes it SuDS compliant and why it doesn't need a separate soakaway the way a sealed surface does. It only works if the base underneath is built to drain too, which is where a lot of cheaper installs come unstuck.
Will the stones come loose?
Not on a resin bound surface. Every piece of aggregate is coated in resin before it's laid, so it's held in place throughout the depth of the surface. What people are thinking of is resin bonded, a different system where loose stone is scattered onto a layer of resin and does shed over time. We install resin bound only.
Will the colour fade?
We use UV-stable resin, which is what stops the surface yellowing off after a few summers. Cheaper non-UV resins go amber, and it's one of the most common complaints about older resin drives. Colour depends on the aggregate you choose rather than any added pigment, so it doesn't wash out either. There's more on what affects the life of the surface in our guide to how long a resin driveway lasts.
Do I need to do anything to look after it?
Very little. A sweep now and again, an occasional wash with a hose or a low-pressure setting, and dealing with spills and moss reasonably promptly. No weeding, no re-sanding, no resealing. If you do get moss taking hold in a shaded corner, treat it early rather than letting it establish.
Is resin worth the extra over tarmac or concrete?
Depends what you want from the drive. Tarmac is the cheapest way to cover a large area with something hard-wearing, concrete gives you the decorative patterns, and resin gives you the smoothest finish plus drainage built in. If the front garden has a drainage problem or you want something that looks high-end with almost no upkeep, resin earns its money. We install all three and we'll tell you straight which suits your property when we come out. Our resin bound vs tarmac comparison and our full driveway material breakdown go through it properly.
